If you have made a complaint to the Law Society about a lawyer’s conduct and you also make a claim against the lawyer for compensation for a mistake, keep in mind that these processes are completely independent of each other and one does not influence the other.

The same conduct on the part of the lawyer may establish a complaint but not a viable claim, and vice versa.

Except in cases of possible theft by a lawyer or with their consent, no information you provide on the complaint is shared with us by the Law Society’s complaints and discipline staff, and we share no claims information with them.

Visit the Law Society’s Complaints and Discipline webpage for more information.
