For the Public

The Lawyers Indemnity Fund manages the indemnification program for BC lawyers. Every lawyer in private practice in BC has coverage with us. This coverage provides compensation to members of the public for financial losses caused when a lawyer has been negligent and, more rarely, when a lawyer has stolen money from a client or other party. 

Whether or not you have a claim, you may believe that a lawyer has acted unethically or unprofessionally. We cannot assist you with complaints about a lawyer’s conduct. Conduct complaints are handled separately and independently by the Law Society of British Columbia. Visit the Law Society’s Complaints and Discipline webpage for information.

Claims for theft

If a lawyer has stolen from you, you may be entitled to compensation under trust protection coverage, which we manage.
